SASO Certifications: Compliant Standards, Trusted Marks.

SASO issues certifications, labels, and marks that signify compliance with prevailing standard specifications and technical regulations.

• Quality Accreditation: Providing licenses for utilizing the Saudi Quality Mark to domestic and international entities in alignment with the prerequisites of the General Technical Regulation governing the Quality Mark.
• Efficiency Labels: Issuing licenses for adopting the Energy Efficiency Label for various electrical appliances such as air conditioners, washing machines, refrigerators, freezers, electric motors, and lighting fixtures. Additionally, energy efficiency licenses should be explicitly granted for electric motors. Extending permits for using the Fuel Economy Label for new light vehicles and the Energy Efficiency Label for tires.
• Accreditation of Laboratories: Enrolling accredited laboratories for energy efficiency and consumption into the electronic program.
• Certificates of Conformity: Issuing Conformity Certificates for specific product models, individual consignments of goods, and production batches. It confirms a product’s adherence to standards, providing details like serial number, batch number, or production date, facilitating the export/import process and allows manufacturers to produce a specific quantity within a defined period, granted by SASO.
• IECEE Certification: Providing nationally aligned certificates of conformity through the IECEE framework, which adheres to the IEC System of Conformity Assessment Schemes for Electrotechnical Equipment and Components (IECEE).

SASO IEC Recognition Certificate (SIRC)

The SASO IEC Recognition Certificate (SIRC) acknowledges compliance with international standards for various electrical products. Introduced in 2018, this recognition requires current CB test reports and certificates from IECEE-approved labs. Initially covering mobile phones, chargers, and accessories, the scheme has expanded to include products like TV sets, dishwashers, lighting, and photovoltaic systems. Notably, coffee makers and water kettles were added in September 2021. These certificates, valid for one year, signify adherence to global standards and regulatory requirements.

SASO energy efficiency for household appliances

SASO has introduced an energy efficiency program with an efficiency label and minimum energy performance standards for household appliances with higher energy consumption. The goal is to enable consumers to make informed choices by comparing the energy efficiency of various products.

The scope of regulation encompasses

• Large and household air-conditioners
• Household refrigerators, refrigerator-freezers, and freezers
• Household washing machines, dishwashers, and dryers
• Integrated luminaires, control gears, and lamps.

Through this initiative, SASO aims to promote energy conservation and raise consumer awareness about the environmental impact of their appliance choices.

SASO technical regulation for water rationalization tools

SASO has introduced a comprehensive ‘Technical Regulation for Water Rationalization Tools,’ focusing on ‘Sanitary products and tools designed to manage the flow (rinse) of water and direct it.’

Under this regulation, SASO issues the ‘Certificate of Water Rationalization’ to products that successfully undergo conformity assessment procedures, ensuring compliance with the technical regulation and relevant standards. Once a product receives the ‘Certificate of Water Rationalization,’ manufacturers can apply for the Water Efficiency Label (WEL) from SASO.

The regulated products encompass

• Faucets (Taps): This includes water mixers for public, private, and kitchen use, shower heads and hand spray/flusher taps.
• Toilets: The regulation covers various types, such as Western-style toilets, Western toilets with Eastern water tanks, and toilets with dual/single flush systems.
• Urinal Flush Systems: The scope extends to urinal flush systems, flush boxes, and water flush regulators.

This initiative by SASO aims to promote water efficiency and ensure that products in the specified categories adhere to defined standards and regulations for sustainable water use.
