SASO, established in 1972, is Saudi Arabia’s regulatory body for standards, metrology, and quality. All exported products to the Kingdom must adhere to SASO Technical Regulations, necessitating SASO Certification and Shipment Certification of Conformity (SCoC) for each consignment. These certifications verify compliance with relevant standards and technical regulations.
To foster consumer confidence in the marketplace and ensure fair trade practices, the Saudi Standards, Metrology, and Quality Organization (SASO) has implemented the Saudi Product Safety Program, “SALEEM.” Facilitating the application and certification process is the web-based platform, “SABER.” Suppliers must obtain a SASO Certificate for products and shipments through the SABER system. It confirms a product’s adherence to specified standards, validating that it has undergone conformity procedures in the production process. This certificate assures conformity to specified standards, reinforcing the commitment to product safety and quality in the Saudi Arabian market.

SASO issues certifications, labels, and marks that signify compliance with prevailing standard specifications and technical regulations.
The SASO IEC Recognition Certificate (SIRC) acknowledges compliance with international standards for various electrical products. Introduced in 2018, this recognition requires current CB test reports and certificates from IECEE-approved labs. Initially covering mobile phones, chargers, and accessories, the scheme has expanded to include products like TV sets, dishwashers, lighting, and photovoltaic systems. Notably, coffee makers and water kettles were added in September 2021. These certificates, valid for one year, signify adherence to global standards and regulatory requirements.
SASO has introduced an energy efficiency program with an efficiency label and minimum energy performance standards for household appliances with higher energy consumption. The goal is to enable consumers to make informed choices by comparing the energy efficiency of various products.
Through this initiative, SASO aims to promote energy conservation and raise consumer awareness about the environmental impact of their appliance choices.
SASO has introduced a comprehensive ‘Technical Regulation for Water Rationalization Tools,’ focusing on ‘Sanitary products and tools designed to manage the flow (rinse) of water and direct it.’
Under this regulation, SASO issues the ‘Certificate of Water Rationalization’ to products that successfully undergo conformity assessment procedures, ensuring compliance with the technical regulation and relevant standards. Once a product receives the ‘Certificate of Water Rationalization,’ manufacturers can apply for the Water Efficiency Label (WEL) from SASO.
This initiative by SASO aims to promote water efficiency and ensure that products in the specified categories adhere to defined standards and regulations for sustainable water use.
